After talking with Jane’s brother Jere, we decided to detour our travel west to make a stop for a few days in Florida and tend to some family business. As we left off in the last post we had arrived at Three Flags (A Thousand Trails park) in Wildwood Florida and did manage a little sigh seeing along with our other tasks. We toured “The Villages” a bit and started to grasp how very large a place it is. We also visited an Escapee RV club park in Bushnell called Sumter Oaks. As members, we could have stayed there at a very reasonable rate, but hard to beat the Thousand Trails parks when they’re free as members! We walked around the 3 Flags park several times and often saw Sandhill cranes walking about.
We had a nice spot at 3 Flags… very spacious and a small but nice pool that we used a few times… water temp was 82F.
After 5 days in Wildwood, we headed north back up 75 to hit Rt 10, a major East/West highway in the US. We travelled about 275 miles to a place called Topsail Hill Preserve in Santa Rosa Beach, FL. It’s about 70 miles east of Pensacola. This CG had been recommended by our friends Richard and Margo who we met in Maine and subsequently have camped with 3 other times as well! They were spot on in their recommendation as this place was phenomenal… Probably the nicest campground to date with nice bike trails, ocean access, a nice pool and other recreational facilities.
We decided to take a day trip to Pensacola to visit the Naval Aviation Museum and had a great time there. We got to have VIP seating for a Blue Angels practice session while there and thoroughly enjoyed the museum as well.
We had a great time at Topsail Hill and there are many more photos including drone shots over the water here on our Smugmug photo site.
